HISTORY OF GOLF:

The origin of golf is unclear and open to debate.  According to the most widely accepted account, however, the modern game originated in Scotland around the 12th century, with shepherds knocking stones into rabbit holes on the current site of the Old Course at St. Andrews, the oldest golf course in the world.

As you work your way through the sometimes frustrating plateaus, peaks and valleys in golfing, the most important thing to remember is to stick to the fundamentals.

FUNDAMENTALS OF GOLF:

Golf swing fundamentals consist of the grip, golf stance, alignment, ball positioning and the pre-shot routine.

GRIP: Correct positioning of the club in the grip is essential for a good swing

GOLF STANCE: Position of the feet relative to the ball at address will contribute to a good set-up

ALIGNMENT: Your body aimed correctly toward the target

BALL POSITION: When using the driver, place the ball just off your left heel. As you use shorter clubs, move the ball toward the center

PRE-SHOT ROUTINE: Standing behind the ball, study the primary and intermediate target and picture in your mind the line of flight. Take a few practice swings, step into the shot, check the target and swing.
